Starting out
The team started out with four people and today it numbers 110 people. There are five units specialising in different products. Using expertise in the auto industry, Bharat Balancing Weightss established their product as a good quality and more reasonable alternative to what was available on the market. Delivering on this promise and sustaining this USP year on year has helped the company grow into being a leader in their segment for wheel balance weights.
Today, there are people working for the company who were there when the company was founded. The company encourages a ‘family’ environment and assists its staff in providing them with advances as and when it is required and helping with the education of their children. There is a synergy between the staff and the company and Subramanian says it creates an atmosphere with “better quality products and better support” all around.
Marketplace: Challenges and growth
Balancing weights are a small piece of machinery and people had questioned Subramanian whether their production would be enough to make a company. The only way to make money in an industry like this was to look at volumes. Their first client was Fiat. From there, there was no looking and today their client list looks like a who’s who’s of automotive manufacturing. Presently they do business with Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, Volvo Eicher, Daimler and Isuzu among others.
25% of all the products produced by the company are exported. Malaysia, Brazil and Italy are all important markets in which business is conducted and Subramanian is looking to add Uzbekistan to that list.
Bharat Balancing Weightss also has a joint patent with Maruti Suzuki which is a matter of distinction for the company.
Future Plans
Subramanian is aiming to diversify the company’s portfolio. Currently drawing in a revenue of INR 24 crore bracket the company is aiming for INR 100 crore in 3 years. The push will come by -planned diversification into car bumpers and accessories. Something the team is already well equipped to do.
GlobalLinker Advantage
Subramanian says of GlobalLinker, “More than 30,000 SMEs operate in Coimbatore alone. Each SME owner, has unique ideas but inevitably gets caught up in operations. Having interactions can help us grow together. An exclusive SME platform like GlobalLinker is essential. I feel GlobalLinker will help SMEs in having better interactions and aid in the sharing of ideas. It will be a win-win for all SMEs. There is order in it, and it will provide opportunities and really help us.”
Advice to aspiring entrepreneurs
Subramanian's advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to listen to the customer and shoot for the stars when it comes to quality. He says, “Always respond to customer queries. We should ensure we have a response to their issues. Our quality and delivery level should speak for itself. We should make India ‘high quality’ manufacturer. I want people to feel assurance when they hear of a product from Bharat Balancing Weightss from India. That is something I think all entrepreneurs should aspire to when it comes to product or service delivery.”
